A few weeks ago, I wrote about my experiment with freeipods.com. Well, today I finished getting all the referrals I needed to get the Free iPod. On top of that, my referrals were all accepted. It is currently being sent to the vendor and should ship soon!!

I will post again when I actually receive the iPod. I’ll take pictures of it and post them too.

In the eleven days since I first posted, I have found nothing but good things about freeipods.com. Some people take longer than others to get theirs, but I haven’t run across anyone anywhere that has said they were swindled or that it wasn’t the real deal.

I’ve started a second account (or whatever you’d call it), to get a second iPod. I know, I don’t need two, but I thought it would make a great Christmas gift. If interested, this is the process:

  1. Go to freeipods.com (much appreciated if you go there from my link). As much as I hate to say this, it’s highly recommended that you use Internet Exploder
  2. Sign up with an email address that you have spam sent to. I own a few domain names and have signed up under different email addresses that forward to an account I have at excite.com and have notice spam come in at the addresses I’ve given only to freeipods.com.
You’ll also have to create a password.
  3. Give them your address. They’ll check this later when asked where to ship the iPod to.
  4. You’ll probably get asked a bunch of yes/no questions about offers. These offers are not the offers needed to fulfill the requirements. Click “no” on all of them (unless you really want to give in to this marketing scheme).
  5. Once you get to a screen asking for friends’ email addresses, click “Skip this step”.
  6. When you get to a screen that has a list of different offers, along with descriptions of the offers, pick one. I highly suggest Infone. If you don’t see it available, stop and try back later. If you come back to the site later, there is a link just below the upper right corner that says “Existing member login”. You can resume where you left off via that link. Of course, if you see something you like other than infone, by all means take it!
  7. Now the hard part. You’ve got to find five other people who will do everything you just did too, and do so through a link you provide them. It’s found on the “refer friend” page.

One more thing. From what I’ve heard, the HP iPod seems to ship faster than the Apple one. I went too fast and selected the Apple one, so I’m afraid I might not get mine as fast as I could have.

UPDATE

May 7, 2007. freeipods.com has changed their terms so dramatically that I would now consider them a scam, and would not recommend anyone do business with them, free or otherwise.

  1. I guess the fact that you have received enough referrals is why I am unable to sign up. I read your post about the free gmail account for signing up and tried but received the following error when acceting the special offer for information on how to receive a college degree:
P3P: policyref=”/w3c/p3p.xml”, CP=”CAO DSP COR CURa TAIa IVDa CONi TELi OUR STP UNI”
    Content-Type: text/plain

    Invalid request or server error.
Are you still offering a gmail account for signing up? Your post said you would take it down when all of your invites were gone and it is up so i assume you still have some.
Send me a link to your new free Ipod account and i will sign up.

    Thanks

  2. I emailed Troy back. The offer IS still on the table. I am currently working on a second iPod to give away as a Christmas gift (as I mentioned in my post). I had two accounts of my own, under different addresses, and may even go for a 3rd and 4th if possible under my fiancee and soon-to-be mother-in-law, who both allowed me to complete offers in their name so I could get my first iPod (which I am currently still waiting for)
