I’m mulling over my new job situation. With a full time job starting on Monday the 10th, I don’t need to keep the job at the Post Office. I could quit and not only get Saturdays off, but get my Friday nights back. On the other hand, I could keep the job and the extra $100/week, but have to get to bed early on Friday nights and make Sunday the only day of the week I get to relax or get non-job work done. I’d like to quit, but I have a good reason not to. I got a chance to go to Israel in August of 2002, and had a blast volunteering on an archaeological dig with a guy from Texas. He’s going back to do another dig in may and I really want to go. On my last trip, I went for two weeks and got about a day and a half to be a tourist, the rest of the time I was digging or sleeping. On the May trip, he is going to do a 10 day tour of the country, and a 2½ week dig that will be a lot less physical work than the last dig. I want to get in on the tour, and stick around for as much of the dig as I can. If I keep the Post Office job, I can make over $2000 by then just working Saturdays. That would cover alt least half the trip. As bad as I want to go, I may just stick it out with the Postal Service. This would likely mean that the biggest problem I’d encounter in going is getting time off from work, assuming I’m not laid off before then (hopefully that won’t be the case).
