Shortly after becoming a Christian about five years ago, I stopped listening to secular music radio in favor of Christian music and conservative talk. Most of what I listen to is talk. I haven’t found a Christian music station I really like in the Twin Cities so far. The most popular is KTIS, run by Northwestern College in Roseville, but not really to my liking. They have a good morning show, but the music gets old fast. They tend to stick to more of a worship style music. I tend to like to listen to music that is more like Christian Alternative, such as Third Day, Jennifer Knapp, and Jeremy Camp. While they play music by those artists, it is not commonly heard.

I did come across another station a little more to my liking over a year ago, which plays more of the music I tend to listen to, but they have such an abysmal signal that it is annoying to listen to. The static causes me to turn the dial before the first song I hear is over.

Today I came across a station here in Granite City that I want to give a try. I was following a car on the way to work (well, we were going in the same direction part of the way), and saw a bumper sticker for Air 1. I remembered that my friend Levi (an occasional commenter here on my blog) had sent me a link to the Air 1 website. I listened a little when I got the link, and for the most part liked it, but never really got into it due to the circumstances of my daily life at the time. I thought they were just another internet radio station, and didn’t realize that they also broadcast from coast to coast over the air. The bumper sticker I saw directed me to 89.5 FM on my dial. In the five minutes I had before I got back to work, I tuned in to see what they are like. I didn’t hear much, but I look forward to another listening alternative.

Sadly, Air 1 doesn’t have a station in Minneapolis, where I am on weekends, and where I will live when I get married. They do however, have a station on Air 1’s sister network KTIE out of Riverside-San Bernardino, California. This means I miss 1/3 of the show every day when I go to lunch. I also like Garage Logic, a local show out of St. Paul, but available all over Minnesota. It’s on at a strange time now though, so I only catch part of that show as well. Sean Hannity, also available in Granite City only via the internet is interesting from time to time, but becoming (like Rush) less interesting with time.

As I said, I’m looking forward to getting into more Christian Radio while I work and drive. I’ll be giving Air 1 a try for a while, and may do a review on it in the future, if I can find the time. I also hope that it gives me a chance to find more music that I enjoy. Since I don’t listen to Christian Radio much, I don’t have a good idea what kind of music is out there. I tend to stumble across the artists that become my favorites.
