After a few weeks of hassle trying to get a ring and find time to talk to my future father-in-law, I proposed to my wonderful girlfriend on Friday night. She agreed to put up with me for the rest of our lives and be my wife! We’re tentatively planning on getting married on New Year’s Day. I had a frustrating situation arise over the diamond that I wanted to write about, but couldn’t, because she would see it and ruin the surprise. I have two people that I can buy jewelry from at wholesale, and both really wanted to get me a good deal. My dad was a jeweler when I was a kid, until I was about 7. He still has a friendly relationship with the wholesaler he bought from. I also have a friend that I met while I was in college that has a jewelry store in Moorhead, MN (he wasn’t in college, he’s my father’s age). My dad wanted me to go with his guy, and my friend wanted me to check with him before making a purchase. My friend came out with a little better deal, so I went with him. I got a ring that would have cost me $1600 more at The Shane Company. I worried during the shopping that I’d offend one or the other potential seller. In the end, dad’s friend encouraged me to go with my friend, that it was a large purchase and a good deal.

Christmas this year will be overshadowed by a much larger day for us just a week later.

Thanks for saying “Yes” Sweetheart, I love you!!
