At what point does a denomination become so apostate that they are excommunicated from the rest of Christendom? Just when I thought the Episcopalians couldn’t get any more screwed up than they are, Ann Holmes Redding, an Episcopal priest from Seattle has come out as being both “Christian” and Muslim.

Huh?

Yep, she is so lacking an understanding of either religion that she thinks she can be both.

Redding doesn’t feel she has to resolve all the contradictions. People within one religion can’t even agree on all the details, she said. “So why would I spend time to try to reconcile all of Christian belief with all of Islam?

“At the most basic level, I understand the two religions to be compatible. That’s all I need.”

But to excommunicate the entire denomination because of one crazy priest? Well, in my opinion it’s the straw that broke the camel’s back. These clowns seem to be in a contest to outdo each other in being less Christian and more rediculous than the last guy. Between the ordination of gay clergy and a gay bishop, distribution of communion by clowns, denial of every essential doctrine of Christianity, and now marrying Islam in their church, it seems they don’t want to be Christian any more. If the denomination as a whole wished to remain in fellowship with the rest of Christendom, they would heed Jude 3 and contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all handed down to the saints. They would disassociate themseves from these clowns and uphold sound doctrine. Instead, they seem to ignore it. At least the greater Anglican Union has been speaking out against this foolishness and begun movements towards cutting the Episcopalians off.

Redding’s situation is highly unusual. Officials at the national Episcopal Church headquarters said they are not aware of any other instance in which a priest has also been a believer in another faith. They said it’s up to the local bishop to decide whether such a priest could continue in that role.

Redding’s bishop, the Rt. Rev. Vincent Warner, says he accepts Redding as an Episcopal priest and a Muslim, and that he finds the interfaith possibilities exciting. Her announcement, first made through a story in her diocese’s newspaper, hasn’t caused much controversy yet, he said.

If they were to be taken seriously, not only would the priest be gone, but the bishop would be too.

  1. I read this earlier, but I can’t say that I’m shocked. Does anyone really take the Episcopal church serious anymore? To say you are part of both faiths shows a lack of intelligence as well as commitment. I wish I could say I’m appalled, but it’s par for the course with the Episcopals.
