Now that I’ve been at my new job for a few weeks, I wanted to say “Thank Youâ€? to the folks at my former job. I had been driving an hour each way every day, and spent nearly $3500 on gasoline last year just to get to work. I did it because I liked my job, I liked the people I worked with, and I thought they liked me (well, I am sure that most of them did).

Now I have a job that is close enough that I go home for lunch. I drive 20 minutes each way, 15 over lunch when traffic is much lighter. I gas up about every 7 working days rather than every 2. If my math is right, that is over $2000/yr reduction in spending on gas.

I also got a pay increase over my former job that is nearly 20%. That’s huge!

So I want to thank the people who stabbed me in the back and got my employment terminated. It seemed pretty clear that someone with no real managerial power in the office wanted me out for his own personal reasons, and knew what strings to pull with those who do have managerial power to make it happen. It seemed pretty clear that the president of the company, someone whom I always had a funny feeling about, is a willing participant in negative office politics.

Now I have more time, more money, and don’t have to work with you. So Thanks!!
